Macular Degeneration Glasses
There are no glasses that can help sufferers of macular degenerative disease, although a strong reading
lens, often called a page reader can help you see with your peripheral vision. However, there are macular
degeneration glasses that may help prevent the disease. These macular degeneration glasses use the Alta Eficacia
Method of filtering certain frequencies of light that are thought to promote macular degenerative disease.
Macular Degeneration Glasses
There is a type of lens that is called macular degeneration glasses. They are the lenses that were first
developed by Celia Sแnchez-Ramos.
Celia Sแnchez-Ramos is a specialist in the field of Vision Sciences at the University of Madrid. She was awarded
a prize for the invention of these macular degeneration glasses or lenses in 2009 for best inventor. It is said
that these yellow lenses are a break-through in the world of macular degeneration.
In June 2006, Celia Sanchez-Ramonos set up a company called Alta Eficacia Tecnologia S.L. in order to develop
and market the yellow lenses which could provide better eyesight for sufferers of Age-related macular degeneration,
which can be shortened to ARMD or just AMD.
AMD is the leading cause of blindness, especially age-related blindness in the Western world now that cataracts
can be removed quite easily in a simple operation. The yellow lenses developed by Celia Sanchez-Ramonos filter out
the blue and violet light which is thought to be chiefly responsible for the development of AMD.
These lenses or macular degeneration glasses are said to use the Alta Eficacia Method, which is the use of a
special filter to block the blue and violet visual spectrum lights that are thought to be chiefly responsible for
causing macular degeneration.
The lenses are called "Therapeutic Contact Lens for Pseudophakic Eyes", which translates into eyes suffering
from neurodegeneration, which in turn is the cause of macular degeneration.
The yellow colour of the lens has little to no effect on the wearer's vision and neither does it affect the way
the wearer's eyes are perceived by a second party according to research involving 2,000 people. In fact, in
addition to providing protection from AMD, these macular degeneration glasses also improved perception of contrast
at night or in bad light.
As you will no doubt understand, these macular degeneration glasses are still very new, but there are
significant trials being held in over 23 hospitals. If you would like to know more, you will have to ask your
doctor or keep searching the Internet on a regular basis.
If the trials work out as hoped and predicted these macular degeneration glasses will help prevent AMD in people
who are most at risk such as those who have a family history of age-related macular degeneration.. About 12% of
people get some degree of AMD in old age, but the percentage jumps to 50% if there is a family history
Celia Sแnchez-Ramos' macular degeneration glasses could be a very welcome source of hope for those who are
extremely worried that they will lose their sight when they are at one of the most vulnerable times of their
lives.
